Hawaii Golf Club Rentals
Rent at the course or fly with your set? How to decide.
Plan a Hawaii Golf TripHawaii Golf Club Rentals vs Bringing Your Own
Most visitors do not need to fly with clubs. Hawaii golf club rentals are available at nearly every resort course and many public ones, and rental sets at resort courses are usually current models. The question is whether the convenience is worth more to you than your own fitted set.
| Rent in Hawaii | Bring your own | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | One to three rounds; island-hopping; light packers | Many rounds; custom-fitted clubs; serious players |
| Cost | A rental fee per round | Airline bag fees each way, plus inter-island fees |
| Hassle | Pick up at the course, nothing to carry | Heavy bag, rental-car space, hotel storage |
| Risk | Unfamiliar clubs | Delay or damage in transit |
Renting Clubs: What to Ask
- Reserve the set when you book the tee time, especially for left-handed or senior-flex clubs.
- Ask what is included: bag, balls, glove, and whether there is a full set or a short set.
- Bring your own glove, balls you like and golf shoes; shoes are the one item many golfers do pack.
- Some private rental shops deliver to hotels; ask your concierge or travel specialist for a reputable one.

Flying With Your Clubs
Golf clubs must travel as checked baggage; see TSA’s What Can I Bring list. Most airlines accept a golf bag as one of your checked bags, but size, weight and fee rules differ, so check before you book. Use a padded travel bag or hard case, take the driver head off if it is adjustable, and pack a towel around the club heads. Put an ID tag inside as well as outside.
If you rent a car, check that the trunk fits a golf bag before you choose the smallest class; a compact sedan with luggage for two plus clubs can be a squeeze. If you hop islands, remember each inter-island flight has its own baggage rules. Travel insurance can cover delayed or damaged baggage; read the details on Cruise & Travel Insurance before you buy. Frequently Asked Questions
Are Hawaii golf club rentals good quality?
Resort courses usually rent current premium sets, often with a choice of men’s, women’s and left-handed clubs. Municipal courses may have fewer or older sets. Ask about shaft flex, left-handed sets and whether balls are included when you book your tee time.
Can I take golf clubs in a carry-on?
No. TSA does not allow golf clubs in carry-on bags; they must be checked. Pack them in a padded travel bag or hard case.
Do inter-island flights take golf bags?
Golf bags generally travel as checked baggage on inter-island flights, subject to the airline’s size, weight and fee rules. Check your airline’s baggage page before you go, especially for small-plane flights to Lanai or Molokai.
